  1. 1. World War I was triggered by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand when Germany invaded Belgium and France.

    2. Germans, Austrian-Hungarian Empire, Ottoman Empire

    3.*Galliopu-1915
    > developed a system of trenches
    *The Battle of Verdun-1916
    > German heavy guns reduced the French trench system
    *The Battle of the Somme-1916
    > massive bombardment of the German lines that lasted over a week
    *The Thrid Battle of Ypres-1917
    > british forces set off a series of nineteen giant mines dug under German lines
    *The Western Front in 1917
    > new campaign was based on new tactics: squads of elite storm troopers, armed with automatic rifles, light machine guns and flame-throwers, were supported with a creeping barrage of artillery fire

4.These events led to U.S. intervention: the sinking of the Lusitania, a British passenger liner; unrestricted German submarine warfare; and the Zimmerman note, which revealed a German plot to provoke Mexico to war against the United States

    5. Propaganda justified involvement to their own people, it was a mean of getting men, money, and resources to sustain the military campaign.

    7. What interests me most isn't the War itself but the people who fought in the war. Reading the diaries of those who actually fought in the war gave me a better understanding of what it was like back then. It gives you a day to day understanding of what happened when they were out there. Just to know what people were thinking maybe a day or two or just moments before they may have died is very interesting, though not great because they probably didn't live to tell of their great adventures.

  4. First, WWI was a modern war stuck in older traditions. This was the first war where modern killing machines, like machine guns and semi-automatic weapons, were used by a majority of soldiers. These weapons were much more efficient than older weapons, yet the officers insisted on using older tactics, such as trench warfare and bull-rushes on enemy positions, to try to dislodge the enemy. The result: an entire generation of european men were wiped out. The western front is where the majority of the killings took place, so you might wanna read up on that. Freedom of the seas from German U-Boats is pretty important, since that was what got America involved in the war. You might wanna mention that the assassination of the prince ferdinand was the catalyst, but europe was just looking for a reason to fight each other, which is the point you should mention. The treaty of Versailles was important as well, but more important were Wilson's 14 Points, which was essentially America's position on what should happen to Germany after the war. Another thing you should mention is the League of Nations and why it failed to stop another Great War from happening. Good luck and if any of this needs clarification just ask.

  11. Honestly there's not much that interest me in WW1. All of my obsession and interest go into WW2, but what I like about the war was the soldiers dedication to continously fight everyday of their life until it was over. The war was pretty stupid to start in the first place but i can say that i admire a lot of people that have died to save someone else. I also learned how sneaky govrnments can be while all of this was going on. There were so many lies and mistrust going on. So there for the thing I can really comment on are the soldiers... Their the bomb !

  18. What I learned about the war was mainly about what battles went on in the war like the Battle of Liege. That batlle ran for twelve days from August 5-16 1914, and resulted in surprisingly heavy losses upon the German invasion force by a big amount of soilders from the Belgians. It was one of the first land battles in the war. Because of that the Schlieffen Plan was started.
